I Said I Didn’t Need to Check
It seemed right at the time.
…
It looked right.
That’s all I needed.
I glanced at it once, maybe twice, and in my head it was already confirmed.
He said, “You might want to double check that.”
I didn’t even pause.
“It’s fine.”
Because I knew it was fine.
There was no reason to overthink it.
So I went ahead and did it.
Committed.
Didn’t hesitate.
Didn’t question it again.
At first, nothing seemed wrong.
Everything looked normal.
Then something felt… off.
Not obviously wrong.
Just not right.
I stopped for a second and looked at it again.
This time a little slower.
And that’s when it hit me.
It wasn’t just a little off.
It was completely wrong.
Not “quick fix” wrong.
Not “adjust it and move on” wrong.
Like… fully backwards, upside down, no saving it wrong.
I just stood there staring at it, trying to figure out how I got it that wrong that fast.
He was nearby.
Of course he was.
Quiet.
Waiting.
I didn’t even look at him.
I just said, “Don’t.”
He nodded.
Didn’t say a word.
But yeah.
My husband was right.
